A quick and easy 20-minute homemade bread recipe that produces a soft, golden loaf without yeast or rising time. Perfect for soups, stews, or sandwiches.

Ingredients

3 cups all-purpose flour

2 tablespoons sugar

1 tablespoon baking powder

1 teaspoon salt

1 cup milk

1/4 cup vegetable oil

1 tablespoon melted butter (for brushing)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Mix well.
  3. Pour in the milk and vegetable oil, stirring until the dough comes together.
  4. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead gently for about 1 minute, just until smooth.
  5. Shape the dough into a round loaf and place it on the prepared baking sheet.
  6. Brush the top with melted butter for extra flavor and a golden crust.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
  8. Allow to cool slightly before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • For a savory twist, add 1 tablespoon dried herbs like rosemary, thyme, or oregano to the dry ingredients.
  • Mix in 1/2 cup shredded cheese such as cheddar or parmesan for cheesy bread.
  • Substitute milk with buttermilk or almond milk for a different flavor and texture.
  • Add 1/4 cup chopped olives or sun-dried tomatoes to the dough before baking.
  • For a sweeter version, increase sugar to 3 tablespoons and add 1 teaspoon cinnamon.
  • Store leftover bread in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or freeze for up to 1 month.
  • Reheat slices in a toaster or warm oven at 350°F (175°C) for 5-7 minutes for freshness.
  • To make gluten-free, use a gluten-free flour blend with xanthan gum.
