Ingredients

Sauce

  • 1/4 cup coconut aminos
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1/2 tablespoon arrowroot starch

Shrimp Mixture

  • 1 pound shrimp, peeled, deveined, and patted dry
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon minced fresh ginger
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Vegetables and Cooking

  • 1 tablespoon avocado oil
  • 4 cups broccoli florets
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 1/4 cup sliced green onion
  • Sesame seeds, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Make the Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together the coconut aminos, sesame oil, red pepper flakes, and arrowroot starch until fully combined and smooth.
  2. Prepare the Shrimp: In a mixing bowl, combine the peeled and deveined shrimp with the minced garlic, fresh ginger, salt, and black pepper. Toss everything together until the shrimp are well coated with the seasonings.
  3. Cook the Shrimp: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the avocado oil, then add the shrimp mixture. Cook the shrimp for about 2-3 minutes until they are almost cooked through. Remove the shrimp from the skillet and set aside.
  4. Cook the Broccoli: Keep the skillet heated at medium-high and add the broccoli florets along with 1/3 cup of water. Cook for about 4-5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the broccoli turns bright green and is slightly tender but still crisp. The water will evaporate during cooking.
  5. Combine Shrimp and Sauce: Return the cooked shrimp to the skillet with the broccoli. Pour in the prepared stir fry sauce and stir everything together. Cook for another 1-2 minutes until the sauce thickens and coats the shrimp and broccoli evenly.
  6. Finish and Serve: Remove the skillet from the heat, stir in the sliced green onions, and garnish the stir fry with sesame seeds. Serve immediately over cooked rice and enjoy!

Notes

  • For a spicier dish, increase the red pepper flakes according to taste.
  • Use arrowroot starch as a gluten-free thickener alternative to cornstarch.
  • Shrimp cooks very quickly; avoid overcooking to keep it tender and juicy.
  • Broccoli should remain slightly crisp for the best texture, so do not overcook.
  • Serve with steamed white or brown rice to complement the stir fry.
