Ingredients
Caramel Sauce:
1/2 cup salted butter
1 cup brown sugar
2 Tbsp white corn syrup
French Toast:
Day-old bread, cut into 1-inch cubes (about a 9-inch loaf of French bread or similar)
1 1/2 cups half and half
5 large eggs
2 tsp vanilla extract
Garnish (optional):
Sanding sugar
Sliced almonds
Instructions
Caramel Sauce: Combine brown sugar, butter, and corn syrup in a saucepan, cook until smooth.
Prepare the Dish: Pour caramel sauce into a greased 13′ x 9′ baking dish. Arrange bread cubes on top.
Make Custard: Whisk half and half with eggs and vanilla until frothy. Pour over bread cubes.
Chill: Cover with foil and refrigerate for at least 8 hours or overnight.
Bake: Preheat oven to 350°F, bake covered for 30-35 minutes until golden. Garnish with sugar and almonds.
Notes
This dish is best prepared the night before to allow the flavors to meld.
