  • 1 cup all-purpose flour, spooned and leveled (120 grams)
  • 1 cup granulated white sugar
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ cup milk (whole milk recommended)
  • ½ cup vegetable oil or canola oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup boiling water or hot brewed coffee

Chocolate Frosting

  • ½ cup salted butter
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ¼ cup milk
  • ½ cup chopped pecans

Garnish

  • Finely chopped pecans

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat to 350°F and grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.
  2. Prepare the cake batter: Combine dry ingredients, mix in wet ingredients, and add boiling water or coffee.
  3. Bake the cake: Pour batter into pan and bake for 25-30 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
  4. Add marshmallows: Sprinkle mini marshmallows over the hot cake and return to the oven briefly.
