A classic Margherita Pizza recipe featuring a flavorful homemade tomato sauce, gooey mozzarella cheese, and fresh basil leaves, baked to perfection for a delightful Italian treat.

Ingredients

For the Pizza Dough

  • 1 pizza dough (store-bought or homemade, enough for one 12-inch pizza)

For the Sauce

  • ½ cup Tomato puree
  • 1 tsp Oregano
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • ½ tsp Garlic powder
  • ½ tsp Onion powder
  • ½ tsp Salt
  • ¼ tsp Black pepper
  • 1 tsp Sugar

Toppings

  • Mozzarella cheese, as desired (about 1 cup shredded)
  • Fresh basil leaves, a handful

Instructions

  1. Prepare the sauce: In a medium-sized bowl, combine the tomato puree with oregano, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and sugar. Mix thoroughly until all the ingredients are well blended to create a flavorful pizza sauce.
  2. Roll out the dough: Place the pizza dough onto a clean baking mat and use a rolling pin to flatten it evenly to your preferred thickness, approximately 12 inches in diameter.
  3. Prepare the baking sheet: Transfer the rolled-out dough onto a baking sheet lined with baking paper. Prick the surface of the dough gently with a fork to prevent bubbles from forming during baking.
  4. Assemble the pizza: Spread the prepared pizza sauce evenly across the surface of the dough, then sprinkle an ample layer of shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the sauce.
  5. Bake the pizza: Place the baking sheet in a preheated oven at 200℃ (about 400℉). Bake the pizza for approximately 10 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese has melted and begun to bubble.
  6. Add fresh basil: Remove the pizza from the oven and immediately scatter fresh basil leaves evenly on top to preserve their vibrant flavor and aroma.
  7. Serve and enjoy: Slice the pizza into portions and enjoy your homemade Margherita Pizza while warm.

Notes

  • For a crispier crust, pre-bake the dough for 5 minutes before adding toppings.
  • You can use fresh mozzarella for a creamier texture.
  • Adjust seasoning in the sauce to taste, adding more sugar if tomatoes are too acidic.
  • Use a pizza stone for even better baking results if available.
  • Fresh basil should be added after baking to maintain its bright flavor and prevent wilting.
