Korean Style Shrimp Burger – A popular dish in Korea and Japan featuring crispy fried, juicy shrimp patties topped with a creamy tartar sauce, served on soft potato buns with a variety of fresh toppings.

Ingredients

Homemade Sauce

  • 4 Tbsp mayonnaise (Greek yogurt can be used)
  • 1 Tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 Tbsp diced pickles (about 1/2 a pickle)
  • 1 Tbsp dijon mustard
  • 1 Tbsp sugar

Shrimp Patty

  • 20 medium-sized shrimps (size 4150 per pound)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 egg
  • 1/2 Tbsp dried parsley flakes
  • 1/4 onion, diced
  • 1 Tbsp potato starch (corn starch can be substituted)
  • 1/4 cup + 2 Tbsp Korean style breadcrumbs or Japanese panko
  • 1/2 cup additional Korean style breadcrumbs

Burger Toppings

  • 2 potato buns or preferred burger buns
  • Lettuce, cabbage, cheese, raw onions, tomato, peppers

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Sauce: Combine all sauce ingredients in a small bowl and set aside.
  2. Toast the Buns: Lightly toast the inner sides of the hamburger buns in a pan.
  3. Prepare Shrimp Patties: Cut shrimps into pieces as described. Mix all patty ingredients except the additional breadcrumbs. Shape into two patties. Coat patties with additional breadcrumbs.
  4. Fry the Patties: Shallow fry the patties in oil until golden brown on both sides.
  5. Assemble the Burgers: Place cheese (if using) on the bottom bun, followed by lettuce. Add the shrimp patty, sauce, and desired toppings. Serve and enjoy!
