Ingredients

Wet Ingredients

  • 225 g Butter
  • 150 g Golden Syrup
  • 100 g Milk Chocolate (melted)

Dry Ingredients

  • 150 g Soft Light Brown Sugar
  • 450 g Oats
  • 1 tsp Salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 170℃ fan/190℃/Gas Mark 5 (340°F) to ensure an even baking temperature.
  2. Prepare Baking Tray: Line a 20×20 cm baking tray with baking parchment to prevent sticking and for easy removal of the flapjacks.
  3. Melt Butter Mixture: In a large pan over low heat, melt the butter, golden syrup, and soft light brown sugar together. Stir gently until the sugar dissolves fully, then remove from the heat.
  4. Add Dry Ingredients: Stir the oats and salt into the melted butter mixture, mixing thoroughly to coat all oats evenly with the syrupy butter blend.
  5. Transfer to Tray: Pour the oat mixture into the lined baking tray, using the back of a spoon to pat it down evenly and compact the mixture.
  6. Bake: Place the tray in the preheated oven and bake for 20 minutes. The edges should begin to brown while the center remains soft and slightly wobbly.
  7. Cool and Slice: Allow the flapjack to cool completely in the tray. Once cold, remove from the tray and slice into 16 equal squares using a sharp knife.
  8. Drizzle Chocolate: Drizzle the melted milk chocolate evenly over the top of the flapjack squares and allow it to set before serving.

Notes

  • Use unsalted butter if you prefer to control saltiness; the teaspoon of salt in the recipe helps balance sweetness.
  • Golden syrup can be substituted with honey or maple syrup, but the flavor will vary slightly.
  • Use rolled oats for the best texture; quick oats may result in softer flapjacks.
  • Ensure the flapjack is fully cooled before slicing to avoid crumbling.
  • Store in an airtight container to keep flapjacks fresh for several days.
