Ingredients

For the Cake

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs, at room temperature
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup whole milk, at room temperature

For the Glaze

  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup water

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking pan or line with parchment paper
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside
  3. In a large mixing bowl, cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract
  5. Alternately add the dry ingredients and milk in three additions, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined
  6. Pour batter into the prepared baking pan and smooth the top. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean
  7. While the cake bakes, prepare the glaze. In a small saucepan over low heat, melt the butter and water together. Stir until combined and remove from heat
  8. Once the cake is out of the oven, poke holes all over the surface with a toothpick or skewer. Pour the warm glaze evenly over the cake, allowing it to soak in
