Dubai Strawberry Cups is a delightful layered dessert featuring toasted konafah dough mixed with creamy pistachio cream, fresh sliced strawberries, warm melted chocolate, and a sprinkling of chopped pistachios. This luscious treat combines a blend of textures and rich flavors inspired by Middle Eastern sweets, perfect for serving in clear cups to showcase its beautiful layers.

Ingredients

Fruit

  • 1 quart fresh strawberries, sliced

Konafah Mixture

  • 1 (17.6 oz) package frozen konafah or kataifi dough, cut into pieces
  • 2 tablespoons salted butter
  • Salt, to taste
  • 1 to 1.5 jars (10.5 oz each) pistachio cream (NOT pistachio butter)

Chocolate

  • 1 Tony’s milk chocolate bar (or about 6 oz chocolate chips or chocolate of your choice) for melting, optional extra for sprinkling

Garnish

  • Chopped pistachios, for topping

Instructions

  1. Toast the Konafah Dough: In a large skillet or deep pot, melt the salted butter over medium-low heat. Add the chopped konafah dough in two batches to prevent overcrowding, stirring frequently to ensure even browning. Cook low and slow for about 15-20 minutes per batch until the konafah is golden and crisp. Transfer the toasted dough to a paper towel-lined dish and lightly sprinkle with salt.
  2. Combine Konafah with Pistachio Cream: In a mixing bowl, combine the toasted konafah dough with 1 jar of pistachio cream. Stir gently to incorporate, then taste and add up to half a jar more of pistachio cream as desired for creaminess and flavor balance.
  3. Melt the Chocolate: Using a double boiler method, gently melt the chocolate bar or chips until smooth and glossy, stirring occasionally to prevent burning. Alternatively, you can skip melting and sprinkle chocolate chips directly later if you prefer.
  4. Assemble the Cups: In clear cups or bowls, layer the dessert by starting with a layer of sliced strawberries, followed by a generous spoonful of the konafah-pistachio mixture. Drizzle or spoon melted chocolate over this layer, then sprinkle with chopped pistachios. Repeat the layering in each cup until filled to your liking.
  5. Serve and Enjoy: Serve the strawberry cups immediately to enjoy the contrasting textures of warm toasted konafah, creamy pistachio, fresh strawberries, and rich chocolate. These cups make a beautiful and indulgent dessert for any occasion.

Notes

  • Use salted butter to balance the sweetness and enhance flavor.
  • Be patient when toasting konafah; low and slow heat prevents burning and ensures perfect crispness.
  • Pistachio cream is different from pistachio butter; make sure to buy the correct product for authentic flavor.
  • To save time, prepare the konafah mixture in advance and assemble just before serving.
  • If you prefer a cooler dessert, chill the assembled cups briefly before serving, though they are traditionally enjoyed fresh.
  • Substitute chocolate types according to preference; dark chocolate can add a richer contrast.
