This Beef and Broccoli recipe is a quick and flavorful stir-fry dish that beats takeout any day. Tender slices of flank steak, crisp broccoli, and a savory sauce come together for a delicious meal in under 30 minutes.

Ingredients

Ingredients for Stir Fry:

  • 1 pound flank steak, thinly sliced
  • 3 tablespoons light olive oil, divided
  • 4 to 5 cups broccoli florets
  • ⅓ cup water

Stir Fry Sauce:

  • 1 cup beef stock
  • 5 tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce or coconut aminos
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 to 2 teaspoons sriracha or red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
  • ½1 tablespoon fresh ginger paste

Garnish and Serving:

  • 3 teaspoons sesame seeds
  • 3 green onions, sliced
  • Red pepper flakes
  • Cooked rice for serving

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Steak: Slice the flank steak thinly. Marinate with a portion of the stir fry sauce.
  2. Mix Stir Fry Sauce: Combine beef stock, soy sauce, sugar, cornstarch, sesame oil, hoisin sauce, vinegar, and optional spices. Set aside.
  3. Cook Steak and Broccoli: Sauté broccoli, remove. Cook steak, then garlic and ginger. Add sauce, thicken, return steak and broccoli.
  4. Serve: Garnish with sesame seeds, green onions, and red pepper flakes. Serve over rice.

Notes

  • Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 4 days or frozen for up to 2 months.
  • To retain crisp broccoli, skip steaming and sauté for 4-5 minutes.
